Real Steam and R/C Eye Servos?

8 Replies, 7843 Views

Hey BluePlasticTracks!

I have been wondering if it is possible to replicate real steam like the ones produced by the engines in the television show (seasons 1, 2, 3, etc). Another thing I had in mind was if it is possible to install remote control eyes (through mini servos) like in the television show. Are these possible? If it is, what would I need to do to achieve this? Would it ruin the engines?
Cannot wait for your replies, as you all have amazing ideas and helpful tips!

P.S: The reason for asking this is that I am wanting to recreate the original television show, preferably the early seasons 1-3 and maybe 4 and 5.
I remember someone did a custom edward with moving eyes from a wind up Thomas (you wind up the funnel and the eyes would move back and forth). As for steam I have been thinking of the possibility of a seuthe smoke unit but the voltage to run them is rather high (4.5v minimum and up to 12v on some units)

Thanks, but I was wondering if there was a way to install, say, servos for eyes to be able to remotely control the eyes?
Where would you get eye sockets like that in the proper scale?

Yeah I don't think anything that small would be available, even the original Thomas models used for the show were O scale (twice the size of these) and packed with electronics including servos, battery, and rc receiver etc.
the bachmann engines have moving eyes, but only side to side, none of the crazy spinning eyes

I thought he meant attempting to put RC eye servos in the TMR "Real Steam" Thomas or Percy.

Here's what Ucwepn meant:

Thank you all for your help, you always have great ideas and tips! From what I can see this is way beyond our reach and not overly possible, but it was a nice idea that may become reality in the future.
