Will Jauce ship an item to me? My parents hate Jauce and I love it. I was planning on getting a Tomy Oliver from Jauce. Also I never got anything from Jauce before.

If your parents allow you, then yes, they ship to the United States. Depending on the price of this Oliver, it may be better to try and find one on eBay or Amazon, since there are tons of extra fees and very high shipping prices on Jauce.
Of course, sometimes there can be treasure troves on Jauce, and if you can pay the fees, it would likely be well worth it. I've seen some fairly rare items for very cheap prices on their own on Jauce a number of times. I've never bought anything, but I've been told it's best to buy in bulk.

What is bulk?

Bulk is buying many items at once from the same place. I don't know exactly how much, and I've never actually used Jauce, but I remember another user of this site saying that the extra fees and shipping are only really worth it when you buy lots of inexpensive (not necessarily cheap tho) items at the same time.

jauce will ship worldwide.

you bid on the item, or buy now, just like on ebay. if you win, the item will be shipped to the jauce warehouse. you have 45 days [i think] to buy more items if you want to. you get an email as items arrive. once you have enough stuff, or have reached your storage day limit, you request that the items be sent out.

unlike ebay, you must have money in your account with them before you can bid or buy. they allow you go to into debt to cover fees and shipping, but this must be paid within a few days.

there are fees:
percentage of the auction win price
shipping from the seller to jauce's warehouse
an optional [but recommended] repacking fee to avoid excess packaging from various sellers.
shipping from the warehouse to you
if you exceed the 45 day storage time, there are fees charged for every day you are over.

im not sure how customs and duty works when importing into the states. would pay to check that out if you plan on spending lots. also work out the conversion from yen to USD.

sit down with your parents and let them look at the site. it is safe, ive never been burned except one small item had a fault that wasnt disclosed. you/they will need paypal and a suitable credit/debit card.

bulk is when you can buy many items in one lot, but these trains can weigh quite a bit and would cost more to post.

here we go, heres a tomy oliver with coaches. http://www.jauce.com/auction/o150218582

using the service fee estimater, based on the buy now of 2600yen, here are the likely charges:

Jauce commission : ¥608
¥400 per auction + 8% of the closing price

Banking fee : ¥300
¥300 flat per payment for paying the seller. With Jauce, this fee applies only once for multiple auctions won from the same seller at the same time.

Domestic delivery fee : Actual amount
For having the item sent from seller’s place to Jauce warehouses. No charge if the auction is said "free delivery”

these numbers do NOT include shipping from jauce to you. below is the estimated cost to the states for a 1kg parcel

service estimated cost weight max length max length/girth max insurance delivery time
EMS ¥2,900 + ¥420 smart packing. 30000g 150cm 275cm Available 2-8 days
SAL ¥2,950 + ¥420 smart packing. 30000g 105cm 200cm Available 6-13 days
Surface ¥2,050 + ¥420 smart packing. 30000g 105cm 200cm Not available 1-3 months

I echo what Sun says, you need to know what you are getting into before buying from Jauce. The fees can add up and sometimes may even cost you more than the auction price of the item, but if it is cheap enough this is fine.

But the killer is always the shipping, you would be amazed how quickly the weight goes up, doubly if you take the secure packing option as this adds to the weight of the package, but at the same time is highly recommended to protect the items you've paid for.

One other thing, be careful not to be tempted by the 'job lots' unless you are prepared for the shipping. It is quite possible to win an auction of say 20 locomotives, usually used so you can't guarantee all will work out of the boxm for just a couple of thousand yen. But because of the weight and size of the package you could find the shipping could be 3 or 4 times the cost of the auction price or even higher.

That's not to say that it won't still be economic as the cost per locomotive may well be a lot less than each purchased seperately, but it will still potentially be expensive...

Just to highlight what I mean, I did just win a job lot of Takara Poketrain items, there are at least 2 boxes of track and accessories as well as 37 complete locomotives, one of them a type 500 shinkansen with a total of 20 cars. This I got for the opening price of 5000 yen, which is at the moment just over £40 so a total stunning bargain.

But I fully expect the shipping to be at least twice that as it will not be cheap. The upside is even if it is say 3 times that each locomotive will only have cost me ~ £4 each and the track/accessories will just be an extra...
