Modifying Tracks

I think I've seen posts in the past about people modifying track to make them look more realistic or similar (although I couldn't find them after so I may have dreamt it).

However I just saw something on a PlaRail group on FB that caught my attention. Basically from what I could gather from the automatic translation this guy has been using a special rust-oleum 'Sand Stone' spray (see pic 1) to improve the traction on slopes for his PlaRail advance trains. Now if this does work as well as he claims it is not only useful, but from what I can see makes them look way cool as well.
