There's only one switch I can see and even that is very discrete on the side of the cab. However as Sun says it would probably be fairly easy to locate the sound box and snip a wire or add another switch somehow as I'm sure it would grate after a little while 
Speed wise it seems pretty quick, but there again running on 4.5v I would hope so, might even go quicker if its not powering the sound unit I guess lol!
Although the height of it would pose problems on a layout with bridges etc... otherwise it seems to be 100% Tomy compatible, at a glance you'd never know it wasn't the track is that good. Not bad to get a large oval and a pair of points as well for the price.
