Knockoff/Clone Sharing

10 Replies, 11820 Views

After seeing the below video, I thought it may be interesting to have a topic where we can share hilariously bad and surprisingly good knockoffs.

I'll start things off with this "Duncan" (skip to 50 seconds if you value your sanity):

There is just something about the weird printed emoji face that I love about this one, especially the Thomas one on the back of the box. I searched through AliExpress but was unable to find this exact model, though I did find a number of Plarail knockoffs that appear to be from the same manufacturer as for some reason they all include those palm trees. If anyone has any leads on this let me know, would love to have one of these emoji engines for the novelty.

When I went to some malls in Orange County I saw lots of frozen knock off toys. I found 3 knockoff toys there and these include these frozen instruments that they sell a xylophone, drum, and also a weird flute!

In my search through the jungles of Ali I found this gem. It includes all of your favourites including Chubby Cheeks Thomas, and the famous green engine himself... Rusty! (I actually really like the look of Rusty in green): http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/...68213.html

Thanks for the share Super, the Annie and Clarabel you have are pure gold, the clones sure have a way with faces. Also nice to see the Dumica video, I've been curious about them after seeing the massive catalog they have.

Found this clone rather by accident while searching for something unrelated, appears to have been released by the New York based company Straco, and manufactured in Hong Kong. Having a date of 1975 makes it the oldest clone I have seen thus far. I cant find much info on Straco but they did seam to put out a number of trains ranging from plastic to even tin, however this is the only Plarail clone I've seen from them.

On a side note the uploaders channel is well worth checking out as they have videos showcasing tons of vintage sets.

It is pretty bad when they don't even try to hide it. Those side by side comparisons to the Tomy trains they copied from tells it all.

I don't understand why each set must contain a tender car.

I personally dislike the use of proper rising techniques in the video shown, i mean, it looks kind of unprofessional in my opinion.

But, it is good as a last resort i guess.
