Don't think I have ever seen one of the Plarail Expo Trains without its nose before. Did you remove it Leyland? Looking at this I wonder if an 'O' gauge smokebox door would look good on these?

No, I didn't remove it.  The nose was already missing when I got it from a lot.

Plarailfan knows about at least one of them - there's one in a pic he posted on Flikr in 2008.

I have the middle Tomy Express train. I have no idea on the origin as it was an ebay purchase.

It does suggest that they were sold in Australia (maybe).
