we are having a club open day on sunday and im totally stumped for a track design! normally i have them planned well in advance, but every time i try to think of something my brain cant focus.

got heaps blue track, both single and double and some bits like flexi etc, but dont want to use heaps as i have to take it on the motorcycle [backpack, 2 saddle bags and the top box it all the space i have]

also what engines? chuggington, thomas, plarail, a mixture??

some of my past layouts are here. http://sunsthomasandfriends.weebly.com/s...youts.html

not used to this being so hard! LOL

About the Super Spiral Amtrak set layout.
Simple but busy. Then add a double track going around the whole laout

I have always liked how Plarail Mike had created mountain tunnels with a red go around track. What child doesn't like a train tunnel?

He has done several and are very creative. Here he uses a couple of green curved tunnels and what looks like a tan bathroom rug or towel to give it a mountain feel.

Here is a creative variation of his using just track...

ActionChugger has his own great video of the Super Spiral that shows the instructions on how to build a Super Spiral

First of all, you need to decide the dimension of your layout.

I would probably put in freight trains and coaches in the layout and some tunels.

thanks, guys.

leyland, i know what my space is, just no clue what to put in it, lol. like the idea of double tracks, maybe use some hills so i can elevate. would like to use the plarail elevated track and run emery, since hes usually on high tracks on the show.

AC, those bkings are niiiice bikes. used to date someone with a hayabusa i think it was, and they were looking at a bking when we split. my saddle bags are teeny, can fit a pair of sneakers and some socks in one, lol. could stand to be bigger, but they work. i usually use them for stuff like tunnels that i dont want crushed, or girders which take too much space in my backpack.

thanks guys, got a few thoughts beginning to form, finally. hope to get the track together tomorrow so i can take it to the club on thursday night and try to get it set up.

Do you pre-build the layout at home so you know exactly what to take so as not to waste space on the bike? Like take a piece of string on the floor in the shape and size of the table the layout will be on. This way you can experiment before the show to get it just right?

usually, yes. i build the design i have in mind, take the bits and then modify if needed. usually i havent made it big enough, so have to go home for more track, lol. normally, id have had this sorted several weeks ago, but havent had the thoughts thanks to overtime at work lol.
