Best Ready to Run OO/HO Trains...

Just a question from a curious mind, but those of you like me who run either HO or OO scale models who do you think makes the best models?

Personally speaking I of course like British outline models most, so this limits me to a certain number of manufacturers and generally I tend to prefer Hornby.  Partly due to the breadth of their model range, but also because they are constantly striving to improve the quality.  Their models are also built to last as can be seen by the sheer number of models out there from decades ago that are still running.  I know among my collection I have some that are 40-50 years old and still run like they did when they were new, admittedly back in those days the mechanisms were not as sophisticated as they are these days, but one could argue that being somewhat simpler they do last way longer than their newer more sophisticated/delicate mechanisms might (time will tell Smile ).

However although my favourites in terms of subject are Hornby, in terms of sheer quality of running performance and detail I would have to say my favourite manufacturer is Roco (German).  They tend to naturally specialise in German Outline, but also have some quite nice models from other european countries such as Switzerland, Austria, Holland, etc...  Although I always prioritise British Outline I have over the years also picked up some Roco models including Electric/Diesel models which generally don't usually interest me.  The other main thing that Roco are also known for is military models (they have the mini-tank range) and there is some crossover, rolling stock such as flatbeds carrying tanks and other military vehicles for example.

So what's your favourite brand and why?!?
