A Vintage PlaRail Train..?

7 Replies, 7374 Views

Well this is my latest find, picked it up of eBay, not sure what train it actually is as I've not seen one of these before, or at least definitely not in this colour scheme.

If you're wondering about the wear and tear it didn't surprise me as the copyright on the bottom of the loco is stated as Tomy 1974.

Personally I love the colour scheme which is a two tone light grey with top sorta eggshell blue, with a dark grey and silver detailing.

Windows are glazed on the upper decks and just cut-outs on the bottom deck.

The only real question I'm debating now is do I crack out the airbrush and touch up the worn dark grey/silver detailing or leave it 'original', any thoughts?

Thats a really nice find, the smoked windows are a really nice touch. I didn't know they made them that far back. I would leave it alone, on many older items the "patina" makes them worth more money. It might be risky repainting part of it value wise.

Very cool..
There should be a thread about the variations of this train. I will try to drum it up.

Thanks for the info Super, I thought it was a variation on the current one, but had no idea of the limited status.

As per the consensus I'll be keeping it as is Smile

You are welcome Nigels

Turns out that wasn't a good example of a going price as that is way over many of the ones I have seen going for 1000yen to 3000yen used in the box. Plus there are many inexpensive extra middle cars listed in this color scheme too.

To be honest I never expected it to be mega-rare/valuable, I just like the model and the colour scheme. I'll have to look into getting some more middle coaches as it could be a cool train if extended Smile
