Looking forward to the photos!
I would not recommend using engines of the old kind (Tomy/TrackMaster 1) for those Great Race characters, as they WILL go up in value and become very hard to find (even the last ones from 2013).

What do you mean by "moving directors"? The siderods, right? Also, if you can, you should try to unwire the blue light for the Real Steam Thomas, to prevent it from shining through the holes in the sides.

Thanks DalaG, I think part of the fun of these engines is doing the customs, surely if you own the engines you can choose which one to modify? Regardless of its rarity/future value? Personally there are some engines I buy just to modify, because I like the shape of the engine, or I think it's got a good drive unit, or because I think it will be easy to deface. If I've paid the price and bought an engine I'm not particularly interested in the future value, I know this is an age old discussion point but I would not buy an engine to use not to keep in a display case. So a loco would usually devalue in my ownership due to general play wear. I think both types of owners get different enjoyment out of the hobby but I don't think it's wrong to be of either type.

it's a good suggestion with the blue light, it should be easy enough to do as well, just cut a wire,

Yes I agree some just are begging to be modified including some rare original engines, who knows what will happen to the plastic in another 10-20 years, there are transformers toys from the 1980's that are disintegrating into dust :O enjoy them while they hold together Smile
