Plarail Christmas Train?

4 Replies, 4960 Views

Hi all,

First post here. I'm thinking of introducing (sneaking!) some Plarail into my son's wooden train setup and thought that when the time comes, a little loop around the Christmas tree with a festive train would be a good way of kicking things off. Does anyone know if there are/have ever been Christmas-themed Plarail trains? If not, I'll probably just go with one of the old steam trains and add a few touches to it.

Thanks

Plarail has a line called Disney Dream Railway, which I think has some trains quite suited for Christmas:

I don’t know their price in the US. They are quite cheap here in China, for around $15~$25 each.

In addition to Hystudio's suggestions there are 2 sets that come to mind...

Tomy/Plarails 'Thomas Holiday Set

Trackmasters Original 'Thomas' Christmas Delivery Set

The Trackmaster Christamas Delivery set is from a time when Trackmaster and Tomy Trains were pretty much identical except for the track. To me it is the neatest set with a working Santa that appears and disappears from his house when Thomas's train pulls up and I believe its the only Thomas that has a Santa hat.

BTW, Welcome to BluePlasticTracks.

There is also a newer style Trackmaser II (Revolution) type set 'Holiday Cargo Delivery Set' But even though the train does fit the size of the Plarail/Tomy, Trackmaster and Wooden tracks, its big toothed wheels would probably slip a lot on the wooden rails .

Also, in case you weren't aware, there are sellers who 3D print track adapters that can connect your Wooden rails to Trackmaster or Tomy/Plarail.
TrainLab is one of those. They even make a personalized track piece to go with the Wooden Rails. https://trainlab.com/

Thanks for the suggestions. As nice as the Thomas sets look, I think the Disney ones might be more within my price range right now.

Super: yes, my intention was to  get some of those adapters and loop the Plarail track into the main setup after Christmas. In your experience, how well do the Plarail trains run on wooden track? I've seen a few Youtube videos where they seem to do okay (I guess non-mechanical switches will be difficult for them).

I don't have any personal experience with Wooden track, hopefully some other of our Members do and can add to this. My experience is like yours, watching YouTube videos.

The Plarail 'Dream Disney' line has even more than listed by Hystudio. There are manychildresn Disney Movie Themed ones.
