2023/6/19 Update

Donald-2:
So fun fact, every TrackMaster Scottish Twin I own is a Hit Toys Release, while every TOMY Scottish Twin I own is a round Logo TOMY release, 2 of them being snowplow set Donalds without the snowplow.

Handrails painted, eyes repainted, mouth painted, eyebrows repainted to match appearance in the show.

Blue Donald and Douglas:
Plarail Donald-1 & Plarail Donald-3 became Blue Donald and Douglas respectively.
  • Decals removed, mouths sanded down, new facial expressions sculpted.
  • Primed with tamiya white primer.
  • Painted in TS-23 Light Blue
  • Smokeboxes painted in TS-6 Matte Black
  • Faces painted in Apple Barrel Country Grey
  • Boiler Bands painted in Apple Barrel Red Apple
  • Footplates painted in Country Grey
  • Frames painted in Red Apple
  • Here they are next to Thomas.
  • Lining painted on in a combination of freehand and with a ruler and wiping off some paint that went in the wrong places.
  • No nameplates yet, still waiting on color ink.
[Image: 23619b.jpg][Image: 23619c.jpg][Image: 23619d.jpg][Image: 23619e.jpg][Image: 23619f.jpg][Image: 23619g.jpg][Image: 23619h.jpg][Image: 23619i.jpg]

Jinty:
  • Uses T-06 Painted Percy's chassis and my Plarail Thomas shell from my first Plarail Thomas
  • Firebox shaped out of Milliput Two Part Yellow-Grey epoxy putty, percy's smokebox gap in the footplate has been filled in
  • Percy's cylinders removed (old image)
  • Bufferbeam chipped filled in and replaced with a combination of mixing stick, polystyrene, a file, superglue, and milliput.
  • Whistle and front cab window filled in using parts of a mixing stick cut to size and then fit in with milliput and superglue.
  • Jinty will most likely be using a custom sculpt for the face, unlike reusing an existing face with little to no modifications like ADuckProductions version of the character, as I have my own plans for Jinty.

Due to the new image cap of 10 I am making separate posts on the thread for each major thing. If one of the admins would like to merge the posts to make one massive megapost like I used to feel free to.

2023/8/1 Update - Ryan the Purple Engine

[Image: august2023-ryan1.jpg] [Image: august2023-ryan2.jpg] [Image: august2023-ryan3.jpg] [Image: august2023-ryan4.jpg]

So here's Ryan, now completed, I don't think I've shown him off here before. So he was printed a few months ago using esun white filament on an Ender 3 printer. Sanded down with filler putty and he takes a screw and nut from a TM2 engine. The face is a cast of a TM2 Ryan but I'm not really happy with how it looks, I think i'll end up just getting a TM2 ryan and outright replacing it with it's face and making a new mold with the face removed.

He is primarily painted in Apple Barrel's Neon Purple, with FolkArt Rose Gold Metallic, Apple Barrel Black, Apple Barrel Country Grey, and Tamiya TS-49 Bright Red. Fitted with one of my 3d printed lamps from the eSun filament. Not really a fan of eSun but I do need more white filament so I can print out more lamps.

2023/8/1 Update - The Pack

[Image: thepack1.jpg][Image: thepack2.jpg]

[Image: thepack3.jpg][Image: thepack4.jpg][Image: thepack5.jpg][Image: thepack6.jpg]

Now for a few more characters, here's the new additions to The Pack: Alfie, Oliver, Kelly, Byron, and Patrick.

Alfie was fully repainted in TS-35 Park Green with hand-painted number 12s.
Oliver had his little cap shortened a bit to be a bit more accurate, also gained the black underneath the teeth.
Kelly had a face repaint and I painted the rims of the rims red. I do plan on getting him new wheels.
Byron is just Byron, I got him as a birthday present from a friend.
Patrick has had a bumper extension and face repaint and I plan on extending his front windshield up a bit as they're curiously just smaller for some reason.

2023/8/1 Update - Max and Monty

[Image: maxmontyaug2023.jpg][Image: maxmontyaug2023b.jpg][Image: maxmontyaug2023c.jpg][Image: maxmontyaug2023d.jpg][Image: maxmontyaug2023e.jpg]

Here's Max and Monty so far, they're fully 3d printed with TPU Tires and PLA bodies. Their hoods and roofs were sanded down and had tamiya filler putty applied ontop to smoothen them out, admittedly I didn't fully sand them down like I should've but I could honestly care less, they're turning out good enough for my liking for now at least.
They'll be using casts of the TWR Faces when I get to casting them.
They're painted similar to Sixteen with TS-49 with a coat of TS-12 applied on top.

Also noticing it kinda becomes its own little megathread on its own, that's neat.

2023/8/1 Update - Jenny and Pearl Penny

So this is my interpretation of Jinty, ended up naming her Jenny and genderswapping her to make her a bit more unique in the sea of stock standard Jinties lifted from the books.
She uses Emily's face, partially because I didn't want to make a new sculpt because I was tired.
[Image: jenny1.jpg][Image: jenny2.jpg][Image: jenny3.jpg][Image: jenny4.jpg][Image: jenny5.jpg][Image: jenny6.jpg]

And this is my interpretation of Pug, ended up naming her Penny after Vincent said "you had the names jennifer and penelope and you said lets do jenny but not penny" so I changed her name to Penny and also genderswapping her to make her a bit more unique in the sea of stock standard Pugs lifted from the books.
[Image: pearl1.jpg][Image: pearl2.jpg][Image: pearl3.jpg]

Both are painted in TS-14 Gloss Black with Apple Barrel Snow White and Red Apple Lining, complemented by a Country Grey footplate. Only difference between the two paint application wise is that Penny's bufferbeams are hand painted red, while Jenny's are spray painted TS-49 Bright Red. I've already gone into detail how I built Jenny but I haven't gone into detail with Pearl.

She was made partly out of that Ben I got back in November and the Ben I got back in 2020, an amalgamation of Spare Bens. The bufferbeam tops were cut down and the footplate was straightened out. Then filler putty was used to fix the back and sides of the cab to be smooth.

2023/8/1 Update - Emily's Coaches

These are Emily's Coaches, I asked for a matching paint a few months ago, got nowhere, and then just yolo'd it and painted them in Grey Primer -> TS-14 -> TS-43
The roofs were accomplished by cutting off the Annie and Clarabel roof vents and replacing them with a single strip of styrene superglued down.
The brake coach was made by using milliput to fill in windows.

[Image: Emilycoaches2023-1.jpg][Image: Emilycoaches2023-2.jpg][Image: Emilycoaches2023-3.jpg][Image: Emilycoaches2023-4.jpg]

Paints used are the following in this order.

Tamiya Light Grey Primer (spray, tall can)
Tamiya TS-14 Black
Tamiya TS-43 Racing Green
Apple Barrel Matte Yellow
Apple Barrel Gloss White
Apple Barrel Matte Black

And that's MOST of the major mods and customizations I can remember doing and bringing up in this thread. I hope it wasn't disappointing or underwhelming.

There should be a video coming out sometime, probably in the middle of August, of pretty much most new additions to my collection since 2021 since I haven't taken a headcount since then, I skipped out on a 2022 collection video so I'm jumping straight into a 2023 collection video this year.

Hoping to properly make video custom showcases for each of these customs monthly in better detail and show them running on sets, just gotta build the sets still, it's been over a year since I started building props and I'm not even close I need a new backdrop.

Anyways that's probably all I have for now, time to disappear for a few weeks, or maybe i won't [soldier tf2 laugh goes here]

There's at least 43 customs, I haven't done a collection video in a bit so I don't exactly know the grand total.

2023/8/6 Update - Isobella, Pip and Emma

Pip and Emma

remember the various times i brought pip and emma up? well here's a progress photo finally.
They're painted in TS-23 Light Blue, TS-34 Camel Yellow, and TS-7 Racing White currently.
They differ from their appearance in the illustrations just a tad bit:
1. They are painted in a lighter shade of blue, this was originally in an attempt to make them match the Blue Express Coaches but more retroactively match characters like D199, D7101, D5701, and Old Stuck Up, all of which will also be painted in the lighter shade of blue.
2. Following up with that they're a lighter blue because they are TV styled, more specifically model series styled, as such they have grey faces rather than embedded faces like most takes of pair.
3. They'll most likely have NWR written on the sides of them.
4. Also the windows are a bit off, I forgot to do some of it correctly and I'm too far in the painting process to chuck it out and start from square one again so I'm just rolling with it.

Emma's been a bit problematic while painting though, hence the masking tape still being there, although both have gone relatively alright, I think out of all of my customs Pip and Emma have taken the cake of most infuriating customs.

Isobella

[Image: isobella-01.jpg][Image: isobella-02.jpg][Image: isobella-03.jpg]

Made out of my only TOMY Elizabeth, I cut the nose slightly and resculpted the mouth, then I repainted her in TS-34 Camel Yellow and hand painted all the details, then I cut off the old front wheel fenders and replaced them with new ones made out of milliput, which were sculpted slightly higher to mimic the prop's higher fenders. Then the front and the drive wheel rims were masked off and repainted yellow, after which the drive wheels were cleaned up and the entire front was repainted black + the other colors as it was much easier to do that then use more masking tape + the rims had to be repainted anyways. After that she was given a TS-13 Gloss Clearcoat.
