Digital Plarail & Tomica DX (Deluxe) for Windows 95 & Windows NT

[Image: PTDX.png]   released by    [Image: TOMY.png]

I've purchased this last year from Japan using Jauce, mainly to see if it can be used to work on some layouts before we get to build them.
Not really knowing what to expect given its age and origin, here's my attempt at making it work and using it Smile

Firstly, the packaging. In true 90's fashion, a behemoth of a box, with a single jewel CD case inside:

However, mine came back with some extra CDs, containing additional scenery parts and trains:

Once installed/unzipped on my Win 10 or Win 11 machines, you'll see this. Again, back to the 90's.

Notable files:
  • dtp32.exe - car model browser (simple)
  • ppgp.exe - train model browser ('deluxe')
  • prc32.exe - layout designer
  • prc.hlp - Help file that may prove useful, but need to figure out a way to display Japanese characters on my PC. Despite the language packs downloaded, those older apps don't seem to care.
  • prmov32.exe - layout playback
  • setting.exe - train connection settings? - have not figured this one out yet and its purpose
  • tpgb.exe - car model browser ('deluxe')

I will update this further next week as I have more time to document each of those apps. Will also cover in detail the box and contents of the CDs.

As a teaser, here's what to expect:

Wow, so you can still run them on newer machines...kewl! That big box is in very good condition for its age.

It's a tiny window, and font is an issue, but yep they do work Smile Box is immaculate and could probably withstand a train hitting it Smile

If I read it correctly, it's a limited edition train set that was attached to this edition. If you search for Digital Tomica and Plarail on Jauce, all of them currently are simple jewel disc cases. The fact that this one was in this massive box, suggests maybe it came with the train? Sadly, I did not get it, and I can't find any more details or photos of a golden D-51

Half of the applications would not display Japanese font on my Windows 11, so today's mission is this:

Installing a Japanese Win 95 on a VM and getting Digital Tomica & Plarail DX installed natively.

Fingers crossed!

It's not a set, it's a D51 with no tender, and it's not Plarail, maybe Tomica diecast?

Great find. Explains why I couldn't find it while searching for Plarail golden D-51 and also how it would fit in the box, since I couldn't see a way for a Plarail-sized locomotive to fit.
