I wouldn't bother trying unless you don't mind wrecking thomas, from what I understand they have a delicate mesh inside that vaporises the water i imagine oil would clog it up as it's far less viscous, as for the wires breaking.... It's quite a common thing, on the packaging it asks you to not excessively move the coupling, I've seen several with new wires on the outside of the coupling...... When my sons failed I soldered new cables between thomas and the coach and let them run on the outside, I don't know if the coupling makes a trapping point? But it seemed wise not to run the cable inside it anymore,

As for the oil to smoke when that happens they have a small electrical element that heats up, the oil comes close to the element and heats up and a fan blows the fumes up the chimney, you have to be careful and make sure the element doesn't touch the oil or it can set on fire! And then you get authentic smoke!!!

many of the wired-tender engines ive seen broken have had the wires come off either end as opposed to broken. i think back in the day they "just long enough" wires, with next to no slack. the way kids carry them, dangling with all the weight on the coupler, its no wonder so many come up separated.

sorry for the muck up with the smoke oil, i meant to put in my post that it likely wouldnt work with thomas, it was more just throwing it out there for amusements sake. doing a million things at once and forgot. will go and edit it in now.

Unfortunately do to the Photobucket issues this thread is useless, but here is the one I replied to a little while back.

I will try an update those photos at some point.

Before I opened the casing I thought of getting a triangle safety screwdriver and saving thomas' metallic shell and chucking the rest. But I decided to open the casing. Because when I opened the casing that hides the wires I saw two wires broke. So I had to cut away enough extra wire to make a solid connection. Then not taped or nothing I tested it, to find out the wires caused the problem. I was so happy it was a simple fix I could've bounced off the wall. So I got the wires together and taped them toghether first went so did second. It didn't work. Turns out the wires separted themselves. After repeating the same process about five or six times, I gave up and grabbed a rednecks backup weapon if duct tape don't work-superglue. Put a drop in both wires stuck them together and it's worked like a charm. And would anyone know if baby oil would make better steam then just straight water.

Nice thought about wires superglued. But it's to fix him with a new wire you can find in Amazon or Ebay plus a solder
