Modified Track

In the days before Skyblue Tracks, when all we had were Tomy Train and Dark Blue Tracks (those of you who studied European history at school will remember they were called the Dark Ages for this reason), there weren't so many different track pieces as there are now.

In an attempt to increase my layout options, I took a piece of straight track, cut one fifth of its length out of the middle, and joined the two ends back together with a strip of wood and some screws. Then I took the piece I'd cut out and made connectors on each end with a knife, a block of wood, some glue and a black felt-tip pen:

Why? Because they can be used like this:

And despite the other cross-over options available now, I still find them very useful from time to time. One of these days I'll make some more, but a bit neater this time.
