Wow. Yeah I did not know there was a flip face Thomas with that type of remote. I do have a diesel and have seen the D10, as well as Percy and I believe victor in that style. Maybe the newer remote works with an older engine?

Anyone have any information on this one?

This is the only r/c train I have, we never got another one because hes super slow (we didn't know there was a 3 speed version, which I might look into getting later on) the boys like him anyways. I cannot seem to find the track that switches his face, I have several trackmaster track pieces but not that one, ugh.

I also remember seeing a Diesel 10 like this in the stores, and possibly a Percy aswell. Sorry about the extra junk in the photos, I'm currently trying to fix up an old Edward using a James donor train.

I just won another auction of junk trains and I think it has a bunch of r/c trains in it with no remotes.

I tried using the remote on Molly with no success. I took Molly apart to see how she works and when i was looking for her radio crystal trying to find her frequency, it turns out that there not really remit control in the same way like on a r/c car. They work more like the remote on your tv. So I'm guessing each character has its own "code" and they just program every remote and character with the same code which to me is great, because you could own every r/c character and never have any interference running at the same time.

I took the remote and pointed it at my cell phone and turned on the camera (great way to test any remote by the way) and there was a different pattern that flashed for forward, reverse and stop.

If I'm correct any remote as long as its in the same character, it should work, now the code used might have changed between manufacturers especially with the newest ones not needing a tender to supply power to the train.

Again I could be totally wrong because I currently dont have anyway to test the theory untill I get some parts.

I have not had luck with the same character remotes work controlling different r/c units. I have a newer pistol grip Thomas and one of the older ones. The trains and controllers look identical almost but they will not control each other.

That not promising then, that means the controller is keyed to the vehicle then, ugh.

What I need to do is then get a remote from another Molly and then buy a complete r/c set from another train and swap the logic board inside Molly' body and controller to make it work then.

This might take some tine to accomplish

May be cheaper to wait for a complete Molly and remote. They typically seem to sell for between $20-$30 used on eBay, or at least the ones I have watched. The cotton let I have for Moly does not make the sounds. I took it apart to investigate but could not get it back to making the sound. Also in the process of re-assembling the remote there is a clip that holds the shifter piece that I could not get back on. I re-assembled as is and it works just does not have sound and does not spring back into place from F to R, etc... I was on the lookout for a replacement remote too but lost track of that as Molly was put away since I took more interest in the Japanese style trains/layout.
A percy remote will control a percy, a james remote will control a james etc. That is my understanding anyway that as simply a cost constraint all specific engines can be controlled by the specific remote.
I guess you could buy Mr.Motorman but he might not work.

Mr. Motorman is cool, but its meant to be used with engines with c batteries that aren't remote control. I would have to convert Molly to a standard engine and either extensively modify her tender or I could repaint a tender from lets say a Gordon or a James.

Also I dot have a Mr. Motorman, although I would like to get one

I scored a pistol grip controller for Molly on Ebay for $6, from Nova Scotia!

The seller states that the sound functions work, so fingers crosses its the right controller!

The remote came in today and after some fresh batteries and cleaned off some light battery corrosion the remote fired up. At first it wouldn't work so I took Molly apart and found a loose wire to her receiver so after a quick solder repair she fired right up and works great. She isn't the fastest by any means, but she is alive! Ill post a video tonight of her making a lap
