Warped Track

17 Replies, 1634 Views

Hey guys, it's been a while, as always. I'm starting to get my stuff together for this year's Christmas layout. I recently bought 2 packages of R-05 curved double tracks. I noticed that all of the curves in both packages have a slight warp to them, some more noticeable than others. They are functional but do not lay flat on the table. Is this common with these pieces or did I get a bad batch? I bought them on Amazon so I could return them and get replacements. Thoughts?

Hi Bob

My double curves are flat. Did you pick them up new from a store or second hand?

Hmm...they were new from Amazon.

Hello Bob,
its indeed not normal to for any Plarail tracks that are meant to be flat to have a bend like that. Atleast I havent seen anything like that especially if its new.

Cheers

[Image: face-slap.gif] DOH!!! I can be such a Dolt sometimes... I just blew past your mentioning where you got the track from Amazon in your original Post, sorry Bob, I could blame it on age but its too easy to blame all my shortcomings on that anymore 😒

On a brighter note...so glad that you are into keeping part of you Xmas layout as Plarail/Trackmaster and thrilled that you may share the experience with us Bob 😃

Oh. Sorry Super, that "hmm.." in my earlier post wasn't directed at you, I was just pondering what to do about the track. LOL, this is what happens when two old guys try to have tech savvy communication. Based on everyone's feedback I think I'm going to return the curves and hope they send me a better batch. It concerns me that both packages were warped.

Of course just a guess...maybe the case/box that came into Amazons Warehouse had been sitting around with other heavy boxes sitting on top and the pressure pushing on the track packages for long periods of time warped a bunch in the same way...at any rate with Amazons easy return policy and all the locations where you can drop it off free, I think returning them is the right path to take. Let us know if the replacements are in better condition.

I've never encountered this as I don't have any new track, as a solution, you can heat up the parts, by using a blow-dryer or just by putting it in a tub with warm water. After that you can place it between two flat objects, such a a table and a wooden board, then place something heavy on top and let it cool down.

Funny you should say that, I decided to try the blow dryer method earlier today. Just on a quick pass I had fairly good results. I had already requested replacements from Amazon which come tomorrow but couldn't help but tinker in the meantime. I figure if the replacement batch have the same problem I will know what to do. Thanks.
