Help pls to ID this freight train

4 Replies, 5317 Views

Hi everyone,

Might anyone be able to help me identify this train model? Or at least give some years of production pls? Pics below.

The locomotive looks like a DD51, but I don't know if the logs and tank car originally came with it. I've included a pic of the Plakids in the sales lot in case they offer clues about the age/model of the train.

(Sorry for the crappy pics, but they're taken from the sales listing.)

Would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

We have had this discussion about this engine before but I can't find the thread to see if we ever figured out where it comes from. I think Sunhuntin first brought it up as it was included in a bulk purchase of his. Because of that discussion I bought one too. You are right, it is a DD51. It could be of a vintage year released as on the bottom it has the old Tomy logo with the boy and girl holding hands although I am not sure if it is old or not. It does take a C battery and was made in Thailand. We love ours with its black and yellow stripes front and back.

after months of jauce hunting, i am yet to see the diesel in a boxed set of any sort. have seen one or two, both loose. even nowe, its still one of my favourites.

the first grey truck in your pic looks like a troublesome truck.
the large plakids came with a different set which was similar to the uk tomy magnetic where you sat the kids in the spaces on top. funnily enough, i have two of these engines which came in the same bulk lot as the dd51. i have also seen a set with a girl kid. all 3 are printed the same as tomy magnetic people, just a different shape.

In this auction listing it states that the engine is from an out of print tower rail set.

Thanks everyone! Unfortunately the seller won't part with the DD51 on its own. /pout
